The brightest comet

The Comet Holmes that was discovered by Edwin Holmes in 1892 moves away from the Earth and it suddenly flared up increasing its brightness in hundreds thousands times.

In the middle of October of 2007 the comet was 25 times darker than the star of the smallest lightness that can be seen in the night sky without any astrologic equipment. But in a week the brightness of the star increased in 200 thousand times. And now this comet can be seen with necked eye.

Scientists have no logical explanation to the behaviour of the comet. The trajectory of the comet also surprised scientists as this planet was moving in the direction of the sun but when it approached the sun at the distance of 307 million kilometres, it started to move away from the sun. And nowadays it is at the distance of about 250 kilometres from our planet.

By the way some scientists think that this flash of the comet is not its first flash. They consider that the same flash took place in 1892 when it was discovered by Holmes.

According to Japanese scientists people will have the chance to watch the flash of this comet the next time in 2014 when it will be at the minimal distance from the sun. And maybe then, scientists will find scientific explanation to sudden flashes of the comet.
